CONSELLORS' PERCEPTION ON PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS' KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS HIV AND AIDS IN ANAMBRA STATE OF NIGERIA
Abstract: The main purpose of this study was to find out the knowledge and attitude of adolescents towards HIV/AIDS in Onitsha North Local government Area. The population of the study consisted of all adolescent between 13 -20 years old in Onitsha North Local Government Area and they are about 10,000 in number. To embark on this work, the researcher made use of a questionnaire for data collection. Multiphase sampling technique, simple random and cluster sampling was used to draw population from the study. Finally, statistical weighted stool mean was used for knowledge of adolescent towards HIV/AID, but for the attitude aggregate scores, frequency and percentages were used in answering the research question while t-test was used in testing the null hypotheses. In conclusion, major findings of the study were discussed based on the research questions; recommendations and suggestions for further study were given based on the findings and problems encountered during the course of the study. This study will impact positively on the reading public. The possession of the knowledge of counselling techniques and theories to low extent implies that they need to read current books in the area and as well, undergo training in HIV and AIDs counselling techniques/skills and theories. Such training may likely improve their knowledge on both counselling techniques and theories. |
