Article Title:

by Dr (Mrs) Grace Olufunmilayo Olusegun

Abstract:
This study investigated the multiple sexual relationships and sexual coercion of Nigeria female undergraduates. The sample consisted of 1,200 sexually coerced female students, selected from nine universities drawn from South West using purposive sampling technique, simple random and stratified random sampling techniques. An instrument titled ‘Sexual Coercion Questionnaire was used. It was evident that multiple sexual relationships engaged with by female students have significant influence in their experience of sexual coercion. The result also revealed that there is a significant difference between the experience of female students who had no sexual partner and those with three sexual partners. Also a significant difference occurred between those who do not have sexual partner and those with more than three sexual partners. There is also a significant difference between the experiences of those with one sexual partner compare with those who had more than three sexual partners. Based on the findings, it was recommended that female students should dissuade from the habit of involving in multiple sexual practices. It was also recommended that female students should desists from using sexual practices as a means of solving academic and personal problems. Counsellors in universities should organize seminars and design effective programme on sexually acceptable behaviour that would enhance a change of behaviour among university students. This research is crucial because it revealed the unconventional sexual behaviour of female students that could serve as impediment to their academic achievement. More so it will serve as a caution to those who are yet to involve in multiple sexual relationship , those that are already into it will desist from such behaviour based on their knowledge on the consequences. It also provides baseline information for prospective researchers on multiple sexual relationships and sexual coercion of Nigeria female undergraduates.
